Masterand PALM Aerodyn coupling (m/f/d)
Bremen, HB, DE, 28199
ENERCON has been one of the technology leaders in the wind power sector for 40 years. As the first manufacturer of wind turbines, the company used a gearless drive concept that is a characteristic of all ENERCON wind turbines. ENERCON is also at the forefront in other areas, such as rotor blade design, control technology, grid connection technology, and with its wide range of technological new developments, proves its innovative strength time and again.
Masterand PALM Aerodyn coupling (m/f/d)
Innovative ideas are the hallmark of our successes and move us on. We are passionate about realizing wind energy projects across the globe and meeting tomorrow's energy technology challenges. You and your engagement can make a contribution to shape the future of renewable energies.
Position description
The R&D of Enercon is looking for a motivated MSc student to support the Site Analytics and Meteorology department in the development of a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) tool for wind energy applications. The coupling between the LES solver PALM and the multi-body dynamics tool FASTv8 shall be tested and validated. This coupling allows the simulation of wind turbine wakes and their interaction with downstream turbines.
Tasks
-
Literature review of following topics: Fluid dynamics of the lower atmosphere, wind turbine wake dynamics, wind loads on wind turbine structures, fundamentals of Large Eddy Simulation
-
Get to know & practice operating the LES solver PALM and the multibody solver FASTv8 (especially its AeroDyn module) in an industrial High Performance Computing environment (12k CPUs)
-
Perform a validation campaign of the PALM-FAST coupling by comparing the simulation results against literature and Enercon measurements
-
Conclude on the calculation speed of the coupling implementation
-
Write an internal final report or MSc thesis (ideally in English, alternatively in German)
Skills
-
Solid knowledge of the basics of flow physics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
-
Ideally, knowledge of (wind turbine) loads calculations
-
Ideally hands-on experience with Large Eddy Simulations or CFD in general
-
Curiosity for Research & Development in an industrial environment
-
Self-motivation and self-organized work style
-
Good spoken & written English
Your Benefits
- Entitlement to 30 days paid vacation per year
- Optimal support from experienced colleagues from the specialist department and HR department
- Exciting and varied activities
